Back to Closet Basics

Hey y'all! I hope you all enjoyed your weekend! Today, I'm sharing one of my outfits from this past weekend, which includes two of my November purchases. After pulling out all of my clothes for fall and winter, I found a few holes that I needed to fill. I have been working really hard on making more thoughtful purchases. Last week, I shared my October purchases, including this list questions that I always ask myself before making a purchase:

How often will I get use out of this item?
If this item practical for my lifestyle?
Do I want to buy this because I love it or because someone else has it?
How long will this item last in my closet?
Am I buying this only because it's on sale?
Can I style this item with pieces that I already own?

This list of questions helps me make much better decisions when I am shopping and helps me shop more intentionally, instead of just buying things for the sake of buying them. So, when I evaluated my fall and winter wardrobe, I realized that I didn't own a black sweater. A black sweater is a closet basic for me and I had gotten rid of my old one at least a year or two ago, without ever replacing it. I love black clothing! I instantly feel chic and put together when I'm wearing back. I also really love black on black outfits! This sweater is a similar style to a tan sweater that I bought last year and wore so much. It wore and washed really well so I decided to grab that sweater in black. I typically wear a small in most tops so I stuck with the size XS/S in this sweater because it does have an oversized fit (which I really love). It could be worn with leggings but for this outfit, I decided to front tuck it into dark wash skinny jeans. This same look would also be really great with black skinny jeans for that black on black look that I love so much!

Another closet basic that I needed to upgrade in my closet was boots. I already own a similar pair of budget friendly boots but the heel height is just a little too high and I never wear them. Lately, I have been purging items that are just sitting in my closet. If I'm never going to use the item, then I am selling it or donating it to someone who will actually use it. It just feels so wasteful to hold on to so many things that I'm never really going to get any use out of. I knew I wanted to invest in a cognac suede pair with a lower heel height that would work better for everyday wear. I found this great pair and got an amazing deal on them! I literally had them sitting in my cart for four days before I clicked place order because I wanted to make sure that they were the right boots for me. Returning things is one of my least favorite activities so I really try to be sure that I love something before I buy it. I only want to have to return it because the quality or fit was off, not that I changed my mind because I made an impulsive purchase that I regret. When the boots arrived, I knew that I had made a great decision! They are even better in person and such good quality! The fit is true to size and they totally work on my athletic calves. Also, I'm 5'5" for height reference. The perfect heel height, too!
