Currently Loving .196

bohoblu, style on a budget, nc blogger, north carolina blogger, summer style, fall fashion
Happy Friday! I hope you have all had a great week! We are wrapping up the third full week of school and it's being going really well. There have definitely been a few meltdowns and uncooperative times but overall it has been great. As a former teacher, I have really enjoyed playing a bigger part in my girls' education while helping them with their at-home assignments. They love the mix of being at home most of the week and going to school two days. I just feel much more connected to what they are doing in school and I have loved that. I'm praying for all of the other parents and educators out there! This is definitely a challenging year in so many ways but we've got this!

Today, I'm sharing my weekly roundup of what I'm Currently Loving! I already own and love almost everything in this week's post. I love trying things out and being able to give you a first hand account of how awesome it is! I am currently loving adding some new accessories to my collection as well as pieces that I can wear now at the end of the summer and later as we move into fall.

Which of this week's picks is your favorite?!

1. J U M P S U I T | I just added this to my closet (and wore it yesterday)! It's definitely the first jumpsuit that I've owned in a long time. I kind of have avoided buying jumpsuits because my old ones have been uncomfortable. Well, this one is a game changer! It's so incredibly comfortable to wear! I have it in the mauve color but it also comes in this pretty olive green as well as navy. It fits true to size and has adjustable straps. Use my code EMILY15 to save 15% off at BohoBlu

2. S C R U N C H I E | I wear a scrunchie in my hair every single night to bed but I also really love them for everyday. They make such a good bun! I am loving this blush one that I just got in the mail this week. The quality is great and the satin fabric prevents creases in your hair while you sleep!

3. S H O E S | I already own and really love these shoes! I wore them six days in a row at Disney World last summer with zero discomfort. Now, that's a good shoe! I also love wearing them at work, too. A white sneaker is also a great shoe to wear with everything! Dresses, skirts, shorts, jeans, etc. They will go with all of your outfits. Fit is true to size. Stylish and comfy!

4. J E A N S | You just can't go wrong with Madewell denim! When I asked what jeans I recommend, I always suggest Madewell. The fit is amazing, they are comfortable (I feel like that is a reoccurring word this week), and the quality is fantastic. This pair is a classic and it's currently on sale! I personally recommend sizing down one size from your normal (non-Madewell) jean size when you are shopping for denim at Madewell. Their denim always runs a little big!

5. D R E S S | Hello, new favorite dress! I also got this dress in the mail this week and it's so cute. First of all, it has pockets! Dresses and skirts with pockets are just the best. Right?! As far as the sizing goes, I would stick with your true dress size. The sleeves are a little bit fitted so keep that in mind. The fabric is 100% cotton, which I love!

6. E A R R I N G S | I shared these earrings a few weeks ago but I wanted to share them again since I am now the proud owner of a pair. I have sensitive ears so I can't wear heavy earrings so I am happy to report that these are lightweight! They totally work for my ears and I love the simple statement that they make. I will be wearing them non-stop!

7. H E A D B A N D | This headband is another repeat item because I also got it this week. I have been adding a few thinner headbands to my collection and this one has been on my wish list. I finally bought it when it was on sale and I'm so glad I did! It's very comfortable to wear and doesn't hurt behind my ears. I have been living in headbands lately!

8. J A C K E T | A denim jacket is definitely a closet staple, especially during the spring and fall! I wear mine all of the time when I need a good, lightweight layer to throw on. I am loving the distressing on this one. It would be so cute paired with the jumpsuit or dress from this week's picks! Use my code EMILY15 to save 15% off at BohoBlu!

Instagram Roundup .214

Happy Wednesday! Yesterday, I shared a special post about treasure and the repair of a rocking chair that I've had my entire life. In case you missed it, you can go back and read the post here

Today, I'm sharing my bi-weekly Instagram Roundup, including all of the outfits that I've worn in the past couple of weeks. I have been loving layering tees and tanks over my dresses lately. It's such a fun way to stretch your wardrobe and get creative with what you already own! I'm also really loving layered necklaces. I just can't stop! I really don't remember the last time I wasn't wearing at least two dainty necklaces. Minimalist gold jewelry is definitely my favorite!

Treasure + Rocking Chair Repair

diy project, chair repair, diy, nc blogger, north carolina blogger
Hey y'all! I hope you are having a great week so far! Back in February, I shared my one word for 2020. My word for the year is treasure:

treasure | trea·sure | \ ˈtre-zhÉ™r
verb: to hold or keep as precious

So, what does the word treasure mean for me this year? Right now, it means being intentional in my relationships, especially with my husband and my family. Finding treasure in moments and experiences with the people I love. It also means treasuring things of lasting value, not fleeting things that only bring temporary happiness. Treasuring God's word by reading through the Bible this year and ultimately, knowing that all of my true treasure and worth is found in my relationship with God. I'm really excited about what He is going to continue to do in my life this year!

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Matthew 6:21 ESV

I'll do a full a recap of my one word at the end of the year (because wow, what a year to choose this word). But, what my heart is treasuring is definitely different these days. I'm holding things that don't really hold any value much more loosely. However, some material objects are worthy of treasuring. The things that hold meaning and special memories; those are the ones to treasure! I was recently reminded of one of those items when my girls brought down this little rocking chair, pictured below:

This rocking chair has been living in Julianna's room since she was born. It's an item that I truly treasure! When I was pregnant with her, it was one of the first pieces that I put in her nursery. This chair was handmade, back before I was even born. I grew up with this chair. I remember it in every bedroom that I ever had. I remember it being the spot where my giant Ragedy Ann doll sat. I used these chair in so much pretend play and even as a teenager, it remained in my bedroom. It's just a really special item so when the girls brought it downstairs that day, with a piece broken off, I was definitely frustrated. However, they did attempt to fix it for me... with hot glue. Needless to say, it didn't work. But, I couldn't really be mad because they broke it playing together and making memories of their own.

When Josh came home from work, he looked it over and ultimately decided he couldn't fix it. I'm not sure if before that moment he really understood just how special this chair was to me. He asked if I wanted to get it fixed, which he soon decided was a dumb question, lol. Josh called one of his engineer friends, Brad, from work, who has his own YouTube channel called DIY Woodn't You. On his channel, he takes on various DIY projects and takes us along for the journey. Brad agreed to take on my broken chair as his next project and documented the process in this video:

Doesn't Brad make this repair look so easy?! I am so grateful that he repaired my little handmade rocking chair! Be sure to subscribe to his channel for more DIY adventures.

When I was taking the photo below, proudly beside my beloved chair, my girls laughed at me. They asked why I was posing beside of a chair, haha. I mean, they have seen me do much stranger things for Instagram/blogging. I told them I was smiling with my chair because Brad fixed what they broke and I was proud of this little treasure of mine. More memories with this chair are sure to come!

Thank you so much for visiting! I hope you have a wonderful day!

Currently Loving .195

style on a budget, mom style, nc blogger, north carolina blogger, style blogger,
Happy Friday, y'all! I hope you've had a great week! I had planned on doing a couple other blog posts but this week was busy being my kids' personal assistant. My girls do remote learning on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays so I spend my days making sure they complete all of their assignments. So far it's been going really well but my girls definitely prefer their in school days!

Today, I'm sharing my weekly roundup of what I'm Currently Loving! This week's picks include not one, not two, but three leopard print pieces. I just can't get enough animal print!

Which of this week's picks is your favorite?!

1. D R E S S | This dress isn't like anything I have in my closet and that's why I love it so much. I love the vintage inspired floral print, the flowy style, and it has pockets! I just got this in the mail and it's even better in person. I'm planning to wear it to a friend's wedding tomorrow! Fit is true is size. Use my code EMILY15 to save 15% off your purchases at BohoBlu!

2. B A G  S T R A P | I got this bag strap as a birthday gift last year and it's still one of my favorite accessories! I use it on my Madewell medium transport tote and it makes the bag even more fun to carry. The quality of the strap is amazing and mine is still in great condition after using it for over ten months! I love it!

3. T A N K | A black tank is a closet staple! This super budget friendly one is a great option if you are missing a black tank is your closet. So cute on it's own with a pair of denim shorts or layering it under a cardigan in the fall.

4. C L O G S | I have really been wanting a pair of clogs and I just found this affordable option for under $35! I have loved a much more expensive option for awhile but I don't wear heels very option so I was looking for a more budget friendly option. I've already added these clogs to my cart!

5. P A J A M A S | How cute are these pajamas?! I love the style and the pattern so much. This set is $25! Such a fun pair of jammies!

6. T O P | Yes, more animal print! I am loving this little top. The sleeves, the neckline, and the pattern are just so pretty. This would totally be a great piece to wear to work, too!

7. E A R R I N G S | I am loving this pair of earrings! I love jewelry, especially earrings, that makes a simple statement. The design on this pair is beautiful!

8. S H I R T | This white button up top is another closet staple that you need in your wardrobe. If you still living on Zoom calls for work, this top is a great option! Wear it with leggings or shorts and you will still look super professional and comfortable on your call. Outside of zoom, it's a great piece to pair with denim! Currently Loving .194

Happy Friday! I hope you've had a great week! The girls finished their second week of school and it's going really well so far. They are at school two days a week and then we are doing remote learning the other three days. It's honestly gone much smoother than I thought it would and they have absolutely loved going to school. They have been so excited to go! While they aren't doing schoolwork, they have been building an epic Barbie house out of cardboard boxes and random materials that we already had around the house. I have been very impressed with their craftiness! They are also currently working on a school for the Barbies as well. My girls are way more creative than I am!

Today, I'm sharing my weekly roundup of what I'm Currently Loving! I've shared this before but summer is my favorite, mostly because I don't like being cold. Shopping for cold weather pieces isn't as exciting for me but I know it's necessary. I've started thinking ahead of what I might need in the upcoming cooler months and trying to find pieces that will transition well. I'm always thinking how I can go ahead and incorporate the piece into my current wardrobe plus how I can wear it later. I don't like to save clothing; I'm ready to wear it once I get a new piece!

Which of this week's picks is your favorite?!

1. C A R D I G A N | Okay, so I don't like cold weather but I definitely do love cardigans! At work, we have to wear t-shirts with our logo on them so a cardigan is my favorite way to stay warm at work. I am loving this gray one! The material is lightweight enough that I could wear it on cooler summer evenings but honestly, I wear cardigans inside in the summer, if the air conditioning is too cold. Use my code EMILY15 to get this one for 15% off!

2. M U L E S | How gorgeous are these mules?! As we move into fall, mules are my replacement for my summer sandals. I really love a shoe that I can just slip on and go! I already own and love two pairs of Madewell mules. The quality is amazing!

3. J E A N S | I can't even remember the last time I put on a pair of jeans?! I think it's been at least three or four months, for sure. I know I'll be needing at least a new pair or two of jeans and I'm loving this pair! I always love the relaxed yet flattering fit of the boyjeans. You can even size down at least one size in them. I love the distressing on this pair!

4. N E C K L A C E | I have a super similar coin necklace that I wear pretty much every single day. It's not currently available for purchase but I found this one on Etsy! It's gold plated and has great reviews. I love layering my coin necklace with other dainty necklaces!

5. S W E A T E R  T A N K | I told y'all I was loving sweater tanks this season and I found another one! I love the necklace and the feminine ruffle detail on the sleeves. So pretty and on sale!

6. H E A D B A N D | How many headbands is too many headbands?! Well, there's no such thing when you share them with your daughters. We all love them! I don't have a slim headband like this one and of course, I love the animal print!

7. B A G | Madewell bags are my weakness! Just about every bag I own is from Madewell. The quality is amazing and the leather just gets better with time. This new woven leather is gorgeous!

8. D R E S S | A little black dress is such a good transitional piece! Wear it now with sandals or in the fall with a denim jacket. This one would make such a great base for layering! It's such a classy piece. You can get it for 15% off with my code EMILY15 at BohoBlu!

Thank you so much for stopping by! I hope you have an awesome weekend!

Hair and Beauty Bag .22

Hey y'all and Happy Wednesday! I have been meaning to do this post for awhile... since the last time I got my hair done. Today, I'm sharing my my latest cut and color plus what's on current rotation in my beauty bag. I get my hair colored every seven weeks or so because I've had some gray hair since I was 18. I'm not a fan of the gray hair but I do love the time I get to spend with my stylist! I really enjoy the hair coloring process and it's fun to add in my new colors every once in awhile. My hair is naturally pretty dark so I've decided to continue to embrace the dark hair. Dark hair is definitely here to stay but I do love adding in a few light pieces to break up the dark color. I feel the most like myself when my hair is dark. I've tried blonde (yes, you read that right) but it's just not me. I just get the ends trimmed because I am currently still letting it grow out plus my stylist adds in some layers.

My stylist curled it with a 1.25 inch curling iron. To achieve this style she used Kenra Dry Texture Spray and the Kenra Working Spray. They also smell so good on top of working so well! I wish Kahli could come to my house and style my hair for me every day so that it could look this good all of the time! She's the best! I have learned so much about styling my hair from her. My stylist is Kahli at Renew and she's been doing my hair for almost ten years! If you decide to let her work her magic on your hair, be sure to let her know that I sent you over!

You can also read more about my hair care routine and how I go four or more days without washing my hair in this blog post! I don't skip washes because I'm lazy (but that might be part of it haha), I skip washing because my hair is so much healthier and so much more manageable when I skip a few days between washes. I've also shared about a life changing hair brush in this blog post last year. It has been a game changer for my own hair but especially my oldest daughter! We are still using and loving that hairbrush. I own several of them!

But, before I move on to my beauty bag, I did want to talk wavy hair! At my hair appointment, was the first time since the last time Kahli did hair (seven weeks) since my hair had seen heat! I have used a blow dryer or curling iron at home since at least April. I have been letting my natural wavy hair do it's own thing and I have been experimenting with a method that works best for my hair. I tried to go the wavy route last August but my hair didn't feel touchable. It felt crunchy and I just didn't like it so I gave up on the wavy hair by fall. But, I have finally found a method that works for me! I am sure I will tweak it as time goes on and the weather changes but for now I am so happy with it! I'm going to dedicate a post just to my wavy hair routine but this curl defining jelly has been the game changer!

M Y  H A I R  C A R E  F A V O R I T E S

Now, on to my beauty bag! For the most part, my beauty routine has stayed the same because when I find what works, I keep doing it but I have changed up a couple of products. I feel like the most important part of my makeup routine is definitely skincare. When I started intentionally taking better care of my skin, my makeup starting going on so much better and just looked better overall. These products are in my current skincare lineup:

I always follow up my face wash with rose hip oil, in the morning and evening, followed by moisturizer. These routine has made my skin so happy and healthier than ever! Now, let's talk makeup...

F O U N D A T I O N | I've been using a BB cream for awhile but I decided I wanted to switch it up and try a light to medium coverage foundation instead. I started using this foundation back in March and I am really loving it! It's lightweight and gives the coverage that I was looking for. When I'm wearing foundation, I still want to look like me. I'm totally fine if my freckles show through my foundation. I have grown so much more confident in my own skin this past year!

C O N C E A L E R | For the past few years, one of the very few non-drug store products I would buy would be concealer. But, I was determined to find a concealer that I liked that was also budget friendly. I have been using this for about a month now and I really like it. I am planning to try a few more affordable ones but this one definitely does the job! I use this blending sponge to apply my foundation and my concealer. It's my favorite one!

P O W D E RI have been using a different powder for over two years and they are discontinuing it so I am hunting for a new powder. I use a layer of powder on top of my foundation to set it for the day. I am trying this new, budget friendly option and I like it so far. I would recommend applying this powder with the foundation brush that I'm sharing at the bottom of this post. It goes on more smoothly and you can blend it so much better! I have repurchased this several times. I apply my powder with this brush.

B R O N Z E RI just bought this bronzer for the second time and if you haven't smelled this kind before, you need to! It smells so good! I also really love how smoothly it goes on and it gives you such a really glow. I would highly recommend it! I apply my bronzer with this brush. I also even use this as an eye shadow. It's such a great product!

B L U S H |I have been loving this blush in the shade tea rose. I love it! This is such a good drugstore blush. Also, the packaging is so pretty! I apply my blush with this brush.

H I G H L I G H T E RI have been using this super budget friendly highlighter for almost three years. This is only $4 and it lasts forever. It adds the prettiest highlight to your face! I apply my highlighter with this brush.

E Y E L I N E R | I have been using this eyeliner since I was 18! I usually use a small brush to smudge it a little after applying for a more subtle look on my top lash line.

M A S C A R AThis Cover Girl Exhibitionist mascara is probably my favorite drug store mascara find of all time! When I look for a mascara, I'm looking for one that can give me length and volume. This one does just that and does it so well!

L I P  B A L M | I have been using this tinted lip balm with SPF this summer. I love that it protects my lips and gives them some color!

M A K E U P  T O O L  C L E A N E RAlso, keeping your makeup tools clean is a super important part of your beauty routine! When I was younger, I didn't do a great job at this and my skin paid for it in breakouts. I have been using this soap to clean my blender and brushes for a few months now. I love this soap because it's make out of all natural ingredients. It comes in a bar or liquid formula and can be used for everything from cleaning your makeup brushes to your body!

Thank you so much for stopping by! Here's to good hair and makeup days! Have a great day!
