Currently Loving

Happy Friday, y'all! I am so excited it's the weekend! I have several fun things planned and I am looking forward to Saturday's event at J. Crew in the Friendly Center! Join me on September 21 at the Friendly Center J. Crew store between 2pm-5pm to shop! I can be your personal stylist! I hope to see my local girls there!

Today, I'm sharing my weekly roundup of what I'm currently loving. We have been having some fall-like weather here in North Carolina so it's got me excited for sweater and layers!

Which of this week's picks is your favorite?!

1. S W E A T S H I R T | This cozy, budget friendly sweatshirt is on my wish list! I love sweatshirts for fall because they are such a good lightweight layer. I love this pink color! I'm planning to size up one size for a more relaxed fit.

2. P U R S E | How gorgeous is this bag?! I shared the larger version of it last week but this crossbody style is fabulous too. I need one of them for my birthday in November!

3. J E A N S | I got these jeans for Saturday's J. Crew event and they are such a flattering pair of denim. They are also super soft because they have tencel in the fabric! The fit is true to size.

4. N E C K L A C E | I am a big fan of delicate jewelry, especially pieces like this. I love the simple style that's perfect for everyday wear!

5. S W E A T E R | Leggings friendly sweater?! Sign me up! I absolutely love longer length sweaters that work with skinny jeans and leggings. I also really love white/cream/ivory colored sweaters!

6. T E E | If it's leopard print, I probably love it! This cute animal print tee is such a great layering piece for fall. Throw it on with a cozy cardigan and jeans for an easy, comfortable outfit.

7. T O P | Stripes are always a wardrobe staple for me! I really love the fabric, the mock neck, and of course, the stripes on this top. Such a great classic piece!

8. M U L E S | These mules are a great budget friendly alternative to the much more expensive Madewell version that have been on wish list for awhile now. I got last year's version and they are so comfortable! I sized up a to 9 (I'm typically a true 8.5).

Thanks so much for visiting! I hope you have a great weekend! Also, please join me on Saturday, September 21 (tomorrow) at the Friendly Center J. Crew store between 2pm-5pm to shop! I can be your personal stylist! I hope to see my local girls there!

Instagram Roundup

Hey y'all! I hope you're having a great week! In case you missed it, yesterday I shared all about how I go four or more days without washing my hair. I give you all my tips and tricks to keep your hair looking fabulous while skipping washes, even when you exercise!

Today, I'm sharing my weekly Instagram Roundup, including all of my outfits from last week. I worked a few days last week so I had even more of a reason to get myself together but I try to get dressed everyday. When I don't get dressed, I'm just less productive. I totally washed dishes and folded laundry in a dress yesterday because it made me feel good to put myself together. I say, do whatever works for you, even if you are totally overdressed for the occasion.

This top is probably one of my most worn items in my closet and I've only owned it for a little over a month. I think I wear it once a week because it's a closet staple and so easy to style!

My favorite leopard mules are back in action! I love pairing them with a simple white and denim combo. This was such a fun outfit to kick off the weekend last Friday!

I'm transitioning into fall by throwing a denim jacket over my sleeveless, summer dresses to get even more wear out of them as the cooler weather rolls in.

A t-shirt and a leopard skirt is one of my favorite outfit combinations right now. I added sneakers to this look for an even more casual, comfortable look!

This top is so good! I shared it in last week's Currently Loving post and it's even better in person (plus the back is super cute, too). I loved wearing it with skinny jeans and it is a great piece for layering when the weather gets cooler.

Hello, mom uniform! This tee is leggings (and bike shorts) friendly and so super comfy to wear! This is another piece that I wear once... or twice a week.

These jeans are a fun alternative to wearing skinny jeans everyday. I love the slightly flared leg on these that work with mules, sneakers, and booties.

Last Saturday, I went J. Crew to check out their new fall arrivals and there is so much good stuff! Lots of leopard and cozy pieces for fall. I can’t wait to show y’all my outfit for this Saturday’s event! Join me on September 21 at the Friendly Center J. Crew store between 2pm-5pm to shop! I can be your personal stylist! I hope to see my local girls there!

How I Go Four or More Days Without Washing My Hair

how to go four days without washing hair, dry shampoo, how to skip hair washes, beauty on a budget, north carolina blogger
Happy Tuesday, y'all! Today is all about hair! I feel like I have had this conversation with so many people in real life so I thought it would be great to share about how I go at least four days or more without washing my hair here on the blog. I shared lots of tips for this originally back in January of 2018 and again last September but I wanted to revisit this topic and share my current routine for skipping washes. I feel like I have even more tips and tricks to go longer without washing! Before continuing, it's also important to note the texture of my hair. My hair is thick and a naturally a little wavy. So, if you have straight or wavy hair, I think these tips will definitely be helpful to you.

When I tell people that I go this long without washing my hair, they are usually surprised and they almost always say that they couldn't go that long without washing their hair but you can. It's just takes some tricks and some time to train your hair! You have to be patient. You won't be able to go four days without washing your hair the very first time that you try this. It took my scalp and hair about a full two months to fully adjust to new less washing routine.

In high school and college, I literally washed my hair every single night. It was just apart of my nightly routine and I also thought I had to wash my hair everyday. I also didn't drink coffee and dry shampoo wasn't really a thing back then (I mean, I could never be a mom now without dry shampoo). I guess I had plenty of time to wash my hair and I wasn't as tired. My how times have changed! Every woman, especially moms, needs a great hair care routine that works for them and makes life easier, while still taking care of yourself. I am a big advocate for women, especially moms, taking care of themselves! You are important, too. You matter.

Okay, back to hair. Washing your hair too often can:

 1. Make your scalp dry

2. Can fade your color much faster.

3. Causes product build up.

4. Makes you more prove to split ends.

5. Strips your hair of natural oils that make your hair look healthy.

When your scalp is dry, your body actually produces more oil to compensate for the dryness so finding ways to cut down on how often you wash your hair is definitely a must for healthy hair (which everyone wants) so these are my personal tips for washing your hair less often:

DAY THREE HAIR

I know that sounds kind of simple and obvious but so often we are in a hurry in the shower and we don't thoroughly wash our locks. Start by using a shampoo that is formulated for your hair type. I am currently using this shampoo for color treated hair (it smells so good)! I wash my hair twice during my hair washing session. I also flip my hair over to make sure I am getting my scalp extra clean. After rinsing my hair, I apply conditioner only to the ends of my hair and let it stay on for at least 4-5 minutes before rinsing it out.

I also try to take the time to properly blow dry my hair when I'm not wearing it naturally wavy. I use a leave-in conditioner and a heat protection spray then I let my hair air dry as much as possible. About a month ago, I purchased the Revlon Salon One-Step Hair Dryer. This is the blow dry brush that you have probably seen every single blogger share about on Instagram. I resisted buying it because it just seemed to be too good to be true but after seeing a real life friend (who is also a hair stylist) recommend it, I had to get one for myself! It has been a game changer for me. When I get out of the shower, I wrap my hair in one of these moisture absorbing towels to help with the drying process while I do my skincare routine. Then I use the dryer brush and go in small sections to dry my hair. I can dry my thick, medium length hair in about ten minutes or less. My hair is so soft and smooth after using it! Having a good, smooth foundation, will also help you go longer without washing your hair. Since I only blow dry every four to five days, my hair doesn't suffer as much damage as it would if I were blow drying on a daily basis, like I used to do back in high school and college.

D R Y  S H A M P O O  I S  Y O U R  F R I E N D
I wouldn't be able to go without washing my hair for so long without my secret weapon, dry shampoo. I always apply my dry shampoo before bed because it gives the dry shampoo a chance to really absorb the oil in your hair and you wake up with fresher looking hair. I apply the dry shampoo to my roots in at least three different sections and I only use it at my roots. I have tried so many dry shampoos. Budget friendly and expensive. I love the more expensive ones but I found that this dry shampoo works really well for my hair and it's a great price (around $5)! I also use this hair brush to brush the dry shampoo through my hair. I also really love this hair brush for wet hair (and it's a great brush to use on anyone who has a sensitive scalp). Also, I try to go as long as possible before using dry shampoo. I try not to use it until I have gone at least 36-48 hours without washing my hair. This wasn't necessarily possible when I first started this journey of not washing my hair as often but you will get there in a couple of months. I also spray my ends with leave-in conditioner every couple of days or so to keep my ends from feeling dried out.

M E S S Y  B U N
After I have brushed my dry shampoo through my hair, I always throw my hair up in a messy bun or top knot or pineapple before bed. When your hair is down, you are more likely to touch it and add more oil to it. I use these hair ties that I have shared before to pull my hair back. They are literally the best! They don't pull your hair out or leave a crease in your hair when you take your hair down. If they get stretched out, you can just put them in a cup of warm water to regain their original shape. These are a definitely a game changer and come in lots of colors to match your hair!

S T O P  T O U C H I N G  Y O U R  H A I R
Like I mentioned above, the more you touch your hair, the more oily it gets. So, hands off! I try to style my hair so that it won't continually fall in my face because if it falls in my face, I'm definitely going to move it. I like pulling it half way back, using a headband, or I'll put it in a bun if I need to keep it completely out of my face. But also, try not to run your fingers through your hair. I do this out of nervous habit sometimes but I try not to do it because well, I don't want to wash my hair.

E X E R C I S E
Lastly, the question I get asked most often is how do you go without washing your hair when you have exercised?! I always pull my hair back to workout because I just can't exercise with hair falling in face. After I shower, I take my hair down and touch up with dry shampoo on my roots as necessary. I try to not over do it on the dry shampoo if I don't have to, just enough to freshen my hair up if I sweated a lot during my workout. Next, I just touch up my hair with my straightener or curling iron and I am good to go! I also try to avoid using a lot of hair styling products if I don't absolutely have to have it because it just causes so much build up on my hair and makes me hair look less clean. Also, refreshing your hair with your blow dryer (the blow dryer brush works so good for this) after applying a little dry shampoo also helps dry up sweat, too and leaves your hair looks refreshed for the day!

I hope this post was helpful! Thank you so much for stopping by! Have a great day!

Scent Workshop

scent workshop, greensboro nc, things to do in greensboro, activities in greensboro, north carolina blogger, style blogger
Happy Monday! I hope you all had a great weekend! Our weekend was busy spending time with family, shopping with my mom (I introduced her to Madewell for the first time and now she's in love with their leather bags), going to a baseball game, church, and one of the biggest highlights of this past weekend was the candle workshop I attended at Scent Workshop in Greensboro!

Scent Workshop just recently re-branded this month, it was formally known as Bloom Anthology. Lindsay, the owner, wanted to the new name to be more reflective of what her business actually is. It's a workshop where you explore scents to create your own custom candles and fragrances. I met Lindsay for the first time when she did an event at our local Madewell store. She made my husband and I our own custom fragrances right there in store and I immediately fell in love with her business! Lindsay began this scent journey back when she took went to a perfuming workshop in Paris and the rest is history! How fun is that?! Her business also gives back by donating through Kiva to help women entrepreneurs around the world.

This past Saturday was actually my second visit to her workshop, which is located at Revolution Mills in Greenboro, North Carolina. The workshop is so aesthetically pleasing! It's gorgeous. Like I said, this was my second time there but it was my first class. Lindsay invited other women in business and I together for a private candle making workshop, for networking, and to learn from one another. It was such a great evening and I left feeling so inspired!

The candle making experience was even more fun than I had imagined! Who knew I could be a candle maker?! I am a type one ennegram so I really like knowing procedures and what to expect when I go somewhere. Lindsay make this one feel confident when I arrived because everything is organized so neatly! I loved the booklet and the instructions. It was so helpful!

The first step was to do some sniffing! I had actually sniffed most of the scents when I visited the workshop for the re-launch party. I am personally always drawn to floral and fruity scents so I went back to those and narrowed down my favorites. My top two scents from the sniff test were tropical and ripe apple. They both smelled so good to me!

Next, Lindsay had us close our eyes and think about how we want to feel as well as what they feeling reminds us of. I wanted to feel joyful and the feeling of joy always reminds me of going on vacation. I wanted to create a candle that brought those feelings back to me when I burned it! Floral and citrus scents actually were listed on the chart below with joyful. I didn't even notice that until after I had already selected the word joyful!

scent workshop, greensboro nc, things to do in greensboro, activities in greensboro, north carolina blogger, style blogger

The next part of the process was the mixing to find your perfect scent formulation. I went back and got my top five scents. They little bottles are diluted formulas of the scents and are mixed with coconut oil so that they aren't too strong or overwhelming... since the whole class is mixing so many different scents at the same time.

I thought for sure I would go with something tropical but I really loved the combination of ripe apple and wild peony. I started with three drops of wild peony and then added two drops of ripe apple. I took one sniff of this formulation and knew it was the one. It smells so good!

scent workshop, greensboro nc, things to do in greensboro, activities in greensboro, north carolina blogger, style blogger

After I selected my favorite formulation, Lindsay does some math to add the scents to the wax for you. After she added the scents, I stirred the wax mixture for two minutes before pouring it into the jar, where I had already placed the wick. It took about 45 minutes for the candle to set.

Before leaving, I selected a label for my jar. You can choose a generic Scent Workshop label or you can customize yours with a special name or just the formula you used to create your custom scent.

Lindsay recommended waiting at least three or more days before lighting the candle plus some other great tips for making your candle last as long as possible. I can't wait to burn my joyful candle that is filled with apple and peony goodness!

If you are in the triad or surrounding areas, I would highly recommend taking a class at Scent Workshop! This is such a fun idea for team building, girls night, date night, or really any day! I had so much fun and I can't wait to go back to take another class. This was such a fun experience! You can find out about upcoming classes and learn more the Scent Workshop website. Also, be sure to follow along on Instagram here.

Thanks so much for visiting! I hope you have a great day!

Currently Loving

style on a budget, fall fashion, bohoblu, mom style, north carolina blogger, what to buy for fall
Happy Friday! I hope you've had a great week! We have been super busy around here and I am really looking forward to the weekend. Tomorrow, I'm going to take my first class at Scent Workshop (formally know as Bloom Anthology) in Greensboro! I'm going to be making my own custom candle and I can't wait. If you are local, you definitely need to check out all they have to offer!

Today, I'm sharing my weekly roundup of what I'm Currently Loving. This post is always so much fun for me to put together each week. I always end up with an even longer wish list, though. Haha! I especially loving sharing pieces from my favorite local boutique, BohoBlu and I love that you can shop from them too, even if you aren't local!

Which of this week's picks is your favorite?!

1. T O P | I wore this top this week and got so many compliments on it. I styled it with skinny jeans and sandals to wear now while the wear is warm but it would also be so cute with leggings, boots, and a denim jacket when the weather cools off. It's just such a great piece for layering! I'm wearing the size S/M and I would say it fits true to size.

Also, you have to see the back of this top! It's so fun!

2. H E A D B A N D | I pretty much wear a headband every single day! This particular style is my favorite and I actually own three of them. I can wear these all day long without any discomfort! Most headbands hurt so bad behind my ears except these. I love this black one!

3. P E A S A N T  T O P | I have been looking for a fun fall top to add to my closet and I am loving this one! The details are so much and I love the rust color, especially for the fall season. It would look so cute with high waisted skinny jeans and the boots from this post!

4. B A G | Hello, most perfect bag of all time! How gorgeous is this?! I am loving the leopard print and it's my favorite style of bag as well. Dream do come true! My birthday might be two months away but I always know what I want!

5. B O O T S | I am loving this budget friendly pair of boots! I always drawn to this style. I think they look great with dresses, midi skirts, and cropped denim!

6. J A C K E T | This jacket is so a great affordable option and it looks just like my Madewell one but at a fraction of the price. I consider a utility jacket to be a closet staple! Throw it on now with shorts for a cool morning, with jeans for the fall, and layer up with it for the winter. It's such a versatile piece for your wardrobe!

7. N E C K L A C E | I've shared this necklace before here on Currently Loving and it's worth sharing it again because since I bought it about a month ago, I've worn it every single day. It's the perfect, simple necklace that goes with literally everything. I love it!

8. B O D Y S U I T | I was on the fence about bodysuits until I tried one last winter. It's a game changer! They are so perfect for wearing with high waisted pants and they make layering so much easier. I am especially loving this striped one! I love the flattering neckline and of course, the stripes!

Thanks so much for visiting! I hope you have a great day!
