Cozumel Travel Guide Part 1

Happy Thursday and Happy Birthday to my husband! Today, I am going to start sharing about our anniversary getaway to Cozumel and I'm going to start with what I've gotten the most questions about: where we stayed (what we did and what I wore will be coming soon as well). Like I've mentioned before, I wasn't really sure where I wanted to go in Mexico when I started planning this trip, my husband and just knew we wanted to go there for our tenth wedding anniversary. From lots of searches, reviews, and advice from my Facebook friends, we decided to go to Cozumel. I always book our travel through Expedia to earn points for free hotel stays (I also use Swag Bucks to get cash back from my purchases, particularly Expedia because it really adds up) so I started searching for hotels there. Our two main criteria were: all inclusive and adults only (as much as we dearly love children, we wanted to a true kid free vacation for this trip). Adults only is a pretty hard option to find but we found it at Secrets Aura Cozumel. We loved what we saw from the photos, reviews, and the price so we decided to book it back in February.

Our girls stayed with family in South Carolina while we were on our trip so we flew out of Charleston to Atlanta and then onto Cozumel. There's only a handful of airports that fly directly to Cozumel so a layover was inevitable for us. We thankfully had zero issues as far as traveling goes and I am super grateful for that because flying was one of my biggest worries for this trip. This was my first time flying in ten years (since our honeymoon)!

When we checked in, we were upgraded to an even better room than we booked! We were upgraded to a Preferred room with an ocean view and we were blown away with our gorgeous view. Our room had a super comfortable king size bed, a large whirlpool tub, a walk in shower, and a spacious bathroom (there was even ribbon on the toilet paper, lol). My favorite part was the balcony and the view of the ocean. I loved sitting out there each morning! Some of the rooms are right on the beach, where you can walk out your door to the ocean and some rooms open right up to the the pool. Josh and I both agreed that we don't think there's a such thing as a bad room here!

My husband and I are both foodies so finding an all inclusive resort with great food was very important to the both of us. We were very impressed with the overall quality and variety of food available at Secrets. You could get anything from traditional Mexican food, French food, seafood, burgers, sushi, and so much more. As an added bonus, the resort next door, Sunscape Sabor Cozumel, is fully accessible (including food and drinks) to guests who are staying at Secrets so you can eat and drink there as well. Our favorite bar, Tortuga, was a short walking distance away at Sunscape. This particular bar was outdoors and right by the ocean. Instead of bar stools, they had swings! I loved it! There are also many other full service bars (including swim up pool bars) to get literally any kind of drink you want. A fresh pineapple frozen margarita was my go-to drink! Also, the beach area is full service during the day. Waiters come ask you frequently if you need anything, food or drink and they will get it and bring it to you. It was so nice!

We also really loved the 24 hour room service that is included in your stay. They will deliver food from their room service menu to your room anytime of the day and it typically arrives within 30 minutes! One night we decided to literally order eight different things and have our own in room buffet. It as so fun and so delicious! They also keep your refrigerator fully stocked with various sodas (Mexican Sprite is my personal favorite; Coke tastes much different in Mexico), beer, juice, and bottled water. You just have to call and ask if there's something in particular that you need more of. This place will seriously spoil you!

Breakfast was always my favorite meal of the day at Secrets and I'm actually not really much of a breakfast eater. But I really loved having fresh fruit, warm pastries, coffee, and mimosas every morning! Our favorite restaurant to get breakfast was Oceana. The food and service was always amazing plus you can't beat the beautiful ocean view! I also loved getting a frozen mocha from the onsite coffee shop each morning before hitting the beach.

As much as I loved the food and drinks, the beach was my absolute favorite part about staying at Secrets. I could literally stay in that hammock in the water all day long! There's three of these on the property and they definitely stay occupied all day long because it's such a relaxing spot to be. Since we stayed in a Preferred room, we had access to the most comfortable beach lounge chairs of all time and this comfy beach bed (where I definitely took at least a nap or two on). This beach is not any beach that I have ever been on. It's rocky and water shoes aren't a bad idea. Once you get a few feet in, the ocean floor is much easier to walk on. The water is so clear and it help navigating your way through the water much easier. You can also see the prettiest fish right at the shore in just a couple of feet of water. I absolutely loved the beautiful water!
