Year in Review and My One Word

year in review, my one word, north carolina blogger, style blogger

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season celebrating with friends and family! Today, I am sharing my first blog post of 2018 so I thought it would be appropriate to start out the new year by sharing my year in review. We got back from our Disney vacation on New Years Day so I will be sharing my first recap of our trip plus tons of tips for doing Disney tomorrow so be on the lookout for that! It's going to be all about Disney Style!

I'm sure you have seen almost all of your friends on Instagram sharing their best nine of 2017. Those nine photos that the website compiles is the nine photos that had the most likes during the year. For fun I did that one and it was nine outfit photos. While I absolutely love sharing my style with y'all (my Instagram and this blog are almost completely about it), those nine photos that had the most likes didn't accurately depict my best nine of 2017. So I created my own and narrowed it down to 36 of my favorite photos from the year.

This past year brought abundant joy, new beginnings, many adventures, some challenges, and incredible memories that will last a lifetime. 2017 was filled with so many weekend trips, our second trip to Disney World as a family (definitely one of the best highlights of my year), family fun, two beach trips, a mountain getaway, flourishing friendships, our ninth wedding anniversary that we got to celebrate at the beach, personal and professional growth, extra special days, memories made, so much delicious food, and most of all, lots of love!

Every year for the past five years, I have chosen a word that I will focus on throughout the year. It's a replacement to the long list of resolutions that will we will all give up on by February. It's one word that is your road map for the year. A word that gives you a vision for your future. I always start thinking about what word I will choose in December but this year it came clear to me what my word would be back in November. I have the Time Hop app on my phone and a photo of our Elf on the Shelf from five years ago popped up. We named our elf Joy because I wanted to remind my daughters what the true meaning of the Christmas season really was. The elf was (and still is) a reminder to spread joy but after reading the letter that the elf gave the girls, it had me thinking. Why not spread the joy within the holiday season all year round?! I knew then that joy was my word because it's something I need more of in my life. But this is more about finding joy in all situations and circumstances. It's easier to find the bad in everything but this year, I am focusing on the good. In 2018, I will find joy and share it.

I'm so thankful for all of the amazing experiences this past year has held and I am looking forward to what's to come in 2018. I am also sincerely thankful for every single one of you that take the time to read my little space on the internet. I have wanted to just throw in the towel on this blog so many times (because it takes a lot of time and a lot of work) but then I receive e-mails from some of you saying that I inspired you to try something or helped you feel better about yourself. That is WHY I continue to pour my heart into this space. My hope is that through my blog, I can pass along a little bit of confidence and inspiration your way. The most popular post from 2017 was my Body Confidence in a Little Black Dress post that I published by in October. My goal for 2018 is to write more meaningful pieces like that one that speak straight to the heart.

Thank all of you so much for following along as I try to live my life with style & grace! Cheers to 2018!
