styling family photos

One of my favorite parts of getting family pictures taken is the outfit planning process. I just love to put together looks, especially for the whole family!

I planned our outfits around my new buffalo plaid skirt from J. Crew Factory. I'm a big fan of pattern mixing {which comes in handy when dressing four people for photos} so I decided to do my favorite mix of plaid + leopard for our pictures. I knew my husband wouldn't be interested in wearing leopard so I styled the girls in leopard and I carried my leopard clutch. I also added in some touches of gold and polka dots for them as well.

I laid all of the pieces out on the floor to see how they looked together. I definitely recommend doing this so you can see how everything looks as a group. Josh and Olivia were brown/tan shoes and Julianna and I were both in black ankles boots. We all wore some gray, black, and tan to keep the look cohesive.

Also you don't have to break the bank to create a fun, coordinating look for the whole family. Josh's shirt, Olivia's dress, shoes, and leggings, Julianna's shirt, leggings, bow, shoes, and leggings, and my top were all from Wal-Mart! We are definitely a style on a budget kind of family!
