Maurices Service With Style

Hey y'all! Today, I have a very exciting post to share with you! maurices has selected me as one of their sheros, in honor of their #servicewithstyle campaign! This campaign highlights teachers, volunteers, nurses, busy moms, veterans, and more that serve in big and small ways every day in their communities. I am absolutely honored to be chosen! In honor of this selection, today's post is all about how I tackle my roles as a teacher, working mom, and volunteer in style with maurices!

When I was in elementary school, I had so many amazing teachers who actually inspired me to go to college and become a teacher myself. These teachers always went the extra mile to make sure I learned what I needed to and to make sure I knew that I was cared for. The teachers I had growing up were certainly sheros! But I also truly believe that all teachers male or female, truly are heroes. I am so thankful for all of the inspiring teachers that I have learned from and worked with over the years!

I graduated from college in 2008 and began my career as a teacher right away. I taught third grade for four years before moving to the job I currently have. I absolutely loved teaching children in the traditional classroom setting but I needed something different that fit my family a little better. When I left the traditional classroom, I had a newborn and a two year old. I wanted a more flexible schedule where I could be mommy most of the time but I didn't want to give up working with children because teaching has always been my passion. I began working at The Dream Center, a faith based, non-profit afterschool enrichment program that serves at-risk students in my community.

When I started I working there I was the third grade lead teacher but over the years, my role has shifted and I now serve as the lead STEM teacher. My job has given me the opportunity to teach, mentor, and enrich the next generation while still being able to be there for my own children. My job is part-time and my own children actually get to attend the program that I work at! I have also had the ability to volunteer on the PTO board at my daughters' school for the last three years; two years as secretary and this year as president. Everyday when I lay my head on my pillow, I truly do believe that I am making a positive impact on my community and I am so thankful for that!

When you are required to wear a staff t-shirt to work every day, mixing up your style can be tricky while still adhering to the dress code. The logo on our shirt must always be visible, no distressed denim is allowed, and this isn't apart of the official dress code, but you need to be comfortable! Since we are an afterschool program, we do spend a lot of time engaging in outdoor activities, team play, enrichment, and more so we are always on the move! Comfort is key. I love that I can find pieces at maurices that work with my workplace. These jeans are so comfortable (the perfect amount of stretch) and perfect for my job! I would also wear these sandals to work every single day because they are the perfect blend of cute and comfy, which I always love.

My other two looks from maurices are looks that I would wear for volunteering, mom life, and they would also be great outfits to wear if you work in a traditional classroom setting! Even when I'm just doing volunteer work, I still like to look put together and professional when I can.

The first style is this gorgeous fuchsia striped wrap skirt  that I paired with a great classic white shirt and taupe wedges. The wedges might look intimidating but they are also very comfortable and easy to walk in. This top can also be worn untied and tucked in for a whole different look (I also love how this top looks with jeans)! This put together yet comfortable look is perfect for teaching all day! The pieces are modest and appropriate for working with students on a daily basis.

My third outfit is one of my go-to looks when I don't know what to wear. A little black dress and a denim jacket. You just can't go wrong and every woman needs their closet staples in their wardrobe! The little black dress is made out of the softest jersey material and it has the most fun knotted detail at the bottom. My maurices denim jacket is the perfect color to go with everything and the material is incredibly soft (unlike a lot of denim jackets I have tried before). I paired this look with my taupe wedges again but it would also look super cute with the sandals I shared above.
