Neutrals and Natural Hair

Happy Wednesday! Today, I'm sharing what I wore on Sunday using the items that I purchased at my Madewell Shopping Party this past weekend. My closet made a big shift about two years ago to more neutrals and classic pieces. I wanted my closet to be less disposable and more functional. I feel like my closet works better together now and I actually have way less clothing now than I have ever.

I have been loving denim mini skirts this season and this black one was my third one that I have bought recently. I now have a medium wash denim, white, and black. I was wearing my medium wash denim one so much that I felt I would also get a lot of use out of the white and black ones too. I find the fit of these skirts to be true to my regular size. Sometimes Madewell runs a little big in denim but I didn't find that to be the case for these skirts. They also are on the shorter side but I am 5'5" and I feel like the length is still appropriate on me. Sometimes I add bike shorts underneath for a little added security when needed.

I also picked up this cream colored pointelle tee because it reminded me of something that my grandma used to wear but in a good way, if that makes sense. I love how it's fitted and flattering while still remaining modest. The fit is true to size as well.

Okay, now let's chat hair. Over a week ago, I decided that I was tired of curling and straightening my hair for it to just be a fluffy, frizzy mess within less than hour of leaving the house. I was literally spending 15-20 minutes styling my hair for nothing. I have naturally wavy hair so I decided to just embrace it, at least for the rest of the summer. North Carolina has crazy high humidity and my hair is just happier when I let it do it's natural thing this time of year.

I had a couple of questions about what I was doing and what kind of products I was using. Honestly, this is really just a learning process right now. I don't have a formula nailed down that I think is perfect. However, I have found some products that I am really loving that I would recommend if you are wanting to go natural. I have been washing like normal and then rinsing. After rinsing out my shampoo, I have been using my regular conditioner but the main thing I have been doing different is that I have been rinsing my conditioner with my hair flipped over, kind of scrunching my hair as a I go. When I get out of the shower, I have been using a cotton t-shirt or micofiber towel to gently remove some of the moisture. I also do this in a scrunching motion to maintain the direction of the wave/curl. Next, I'm applying a little bit of the Iso bouncy creme by scrunching it into my hair and following up with a little of the Kristin Ess air dry creme. I have also been spraying my hair with lots of leave-in conditioner as well every night.

I sleep with my hair in a pineapple (basically my hair is in a soft srunchie on top of my head). In the morning I refresh my hair by flipping my hair over and scrunching in a little more bouncy creme mixed with warm water in my hands. I flip it over and scrunch again before letting it air dry. I'll keep updating y'all as I find products or techniques that work for me. For now, I am having fun embracing my naturally wavy hair! It's a little wild but it's mine.
