Hey there! This week, I had the exciting opportunity to join other community members on a tour of my own county, thanks to my good friend Nikki at The Preppy Possum! This tour was sponsored by The Heart of North Carolina, which is my county's visitors bureau. I have literally lived in Randolph County since I was five years old (I'm thirty-three now) and there's so many fun places that I've still yet to see. This tour of my own backyard was such a great reminder that they are great experiences to be had, just minutes away! But, if you're not from the area, I hope you'll come visit soon to see all that the heart of North Carolina has to offer.
We started our tour at one of my favorite places in all of North Carolina, the amazing North Carolina Zoological Park. Our zoo is on 2,600 acres and is centrally located in the heart of North Carolina, just south of Asheboro in Randolph County. The zoo has 500 developed acres, which makes it the world's largest natural habitat zoo! Who cool is that?! The NC Zoo also has so many amazing things coming this spring such as a virtual reality experience that will make you feel like you can practically touch a rhino in Africa! They are also adding the Treehouse Trek for young zoo guests to climb and explore as well as a butterfly garden, with native and exotic butterflies! If you haven't been to the zoo in awhile, this spring is definitely the time to go. You'll have to visit the Iron Hen Express while you are there for a delicious meal in between visiting the polar bears and the elephants!
The second stop on our tour was to Seagrove, North Carolina. This small town has the largest concentration of potters in the United States! We visited Thomas Pottery for a pottery demonstration and to look around the shop. I was blown away by the talent! Bobble Thomas transformed a slab of clay into a work of art right before our eyes, in just minutes! I loved her style and I also really loved how functional her pieces are. I love buying pottery that I can use on a daily basis!
The third stop was at Reverie Place, a wedding and event venue that also happens to be on Richard Petty's property! I literally parked by his car port when I visited on Tuesday. I felt special, lol. Reverie Place is such a beautiful venue for a wedding or other special event (such as a birthday party or baby shower) because this space is absolutely beautiful. There's even a cabin on the property that brides can use to get ready in or a couple can even book a weekend getaway and stay in the cabin for some relaxation! We also enjoyed a great lunch by Snyder Farms while we were there, too!
After visiting Reverie Place, I had to go into work but the tour also made stops at the Richard Petty Museum and Victory Junction Gang Camp. I hope to be able to visit both of those places very soon! There's just so much to see in the heart of North Carolina!
Thanks so much for visiting! I hope you have a great day!
