Instagram Roundup

Happy Wednesday! I hope you are having a great week so far! It's hard to believe that I was standing in a winter wonderland at this time last week (see the first photo below) and today it's so much warmer and sunny! There is just something so peaceful about snow when it's falling. It forces me to slow down and just be still. I could literally just sit and watch it fall for hours. It always brings me joy!

Today, I'm rounding up photos from last week on Instagram. I definitely spend the last week bundled up in cozy pieces to stay warm and comfortable on our snow days!

As soon as it really started snowing, I got dressed and had my sweet seven year old photographer take my picture. She absolutely loves taking my picture and telling me how to pose. It's so cute!

Last week, we finally upgraded Olivia's bed to a big girl bed! She helped me pick out the cutest ice cream cones sheets and a bright pink comforter. She is loving it so much!

This is one of my very favorite outfits that I have worn recently. It's cozy meets chic and I love it! This top is seriously the most flattering and comfortable top in the world. I've already ordered a second one and I can't wait for it to arrive!

During our days off from school and work, I freshened up the front porch for Valentine's Day by switching out my door mat and changing the wreath. I am still loving my pink front door so much!

A faux fur vest and sneakers?! Why not! These sneakers are so versatile for wearing to the gym or with faux fur, obviously.

I have been loving neutrals colors right now and these ankle boots are my favorite everyday boot. The color goes with everything and they are so comfortable, even when I'm on my feet for hours!

Like I mentioned earlier, I lived in coziness during our snow days at home. I love to be comfortable and warm, especially when I'm stuck at home all day. This sweater poncho is such a great layering piece!

Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a wonderful day!

How I Go Four Days Without Washing My Hair

how to go four days without washing hair, hair and beauty tips, favorite dry shampoo, hair care routine

Happy Tuesday, y'all! Today is all about hair! I feel like I have had this conversation with so many people in real life so I thought it would be great to share about how I go at least four days without washing my hair here on the blog. Hair washing literally feels like a chore so I know I love finding tips and tricks to help cut down on how often I have to wash my hair.

In high school and college, I literally washed my hair every single night. I also didn't drink coffee and dry shampoo wasn't a thing back then (I mean, I could never be a mom now without dry shampoo). I guess I had plenty of time to wash my hair and I wasn't tired. My how times have changed! Every woman, especially moms, need a hair care routine that works for them and makes life easier, while still taking care of yourself. Washing your hair too often can make your scalp dry, can fade your color much faster, causes product build up, makes you more prove to split ends, and strips your hair of natural oils that make your hair look healthy. When your scalp is dry, your body actually produces more oil to compensate for the dryness so finding ways to cut down on how often you wash your hair is definitely a must for healthy hair!

My first trick for less hair washing is to properly wash my hair. I know that sounds kind of simple but so often we are in a hurry in the shower and we don't thoroughly wash our locks. Start by using a shampoo that is formulated for your hair type. I love this Pureology shampoo (it's pricey but I don't have to buy it very often since I only wash my hair every 4 days or so) for my color-treated hair! I wash my hair twice during my hair washing session. I also flip my hair over to make sure I am getting my scalp extra clean. After rinsing my hair, I apply conditioner only to the ends of my hair and let it stay on for at least 4-5 minutes before rinsing it out.

I also try to take the time to properly blow dry my hair when I have time. I use a blow dry cream and a heat protection spray then I let my hair air dry as much as possible. I blow dry (with no brush) on medium heat at the fastest speed. After my hair is at least 80% dry, I use my brush to smooth my hair out. Always blow dry from the root to tip of your hair for best results. Having a good smooth foundation, will also help you go longer without washing your hair.

I wouldn't be able to go without washing my hair for so long without my secret weapon, dry shampoo. I always apply my dry shampoo before bed because it gives the dry shampoo a chance to really absorb the oil in your hair and you wake up with fresher looking hair. I apply the dry shampoo to my roots in at least three different sections and I only use it at my roots. I have tried so many dry shampoos. Budget friendly and expensive. I love the more expensive ones but I found that this dry shampoo works really well for my hair and it's a great price!

I use this hair brush to brush the dry shampoo through my hair. I also really love this hair brush for wet hair (and it's a great brush to use on anyone who has a sensitive scalp).

After I have brushed my dry shampoo through my hair, I always throw my hair up in a messy bun or top knot before bed. When I had shorter hair, I couldn't do this and I always had to wash my hair more often. When your hair is down, you are more likely to touch it and add more oil to it. I use these hair ties that I have shared before to pull my hair back. They are literally the best! They don't pull your hair out or leave a crease in your hair when you take your hair down. If they get stretched out, you can just put them in a cup of warm water to regain their original shape. These are a definitely a game changer and come in lots of colors to match your hair!

Lastly, the question I get asked most often is how do you go without washing your hair when you have exercised?!  I always pull my hair back to workout because I just can't exercise with hair falling in face. After I shower, I take my hair down and touch up with dry shampoo on my roots as necessary. I try to not over do it on the dry shampoo if I don't have to, just enough to freshen my hair up if I sweated a lot during my workout. Next, I just touch up my hair with my straightener or curling iron and I am good to go! I also try to avoid using a lot of hair styling products if I don't absolutely have to have it because it just causes so much build up on my hair and makes me hair look less clean.

I hope this post was helpful! Thank you so much for stopping by! Have a great day!

Old Navy Try Ons

style on a budget, old navy style, north carolina blogger, what to buy at old navy, mom style

Happy Monday! My kiddos are finally back in school but I'm off work until Wednesday. As much as I'm ready for a regular routine, easing back into a regular week with a couple days off is pretty good too! Today, I'm sharing an Old Navy try on session and this is actually the first time I have been in Old Navy since before Christmas. I was honestly just over it because the store was so picked through from holiday shoppers and I wasn't loving much in the store. But now they have lots of great new arrivals and I'm so excited for what's to come for springtime! Old Navy is always one of my go-to stores for budget friendly shopping.

Boyfriend Tee | I bought three of these boyfriend tees last season and I absolutely love them! They are back again and in even more colors, including this gorgeous lavender color. You can definitely get your regular size to achieve the relaxed, boyfriend style but I personally like to size up one size in these tees to wear with bralettes for a more slouchy look. It's totally up to your preference and how you plan to style it. These tees are super affordable and always wash up super well for me!

Shirt Dress | The color of this dress is what immediately caught my eye. If you've been following along for very long then you know I am a big fan of all things pink! This dress is made out of the softest Tencel material and it's a great "throw on and go" kind of dress! I tried on a size small and found it to fit very true to size. The drawstring waist can be adjusted to fit you the way you like. One of my favorite parts of this dress is the pockets. I always love a dress or skirt with pockets! Pocket gives you something to do with your hands when you are feeling awkward, lol.

Blush Jacket | They have been making this style of jacket for awhile now but this is the first time I have ever seen it in blush pink and I absolutely love it! This is a great piece to wear throughout the rest of winter and will transition perfectly into springtime. It would look cute layered with a sweater now or over a swing dress later. It runs true to size and I'm wearing a size small.

Utility Shirt | This shirt is amazing! The fabric is also Tencel which gives it the softest texture and the color is gorgeous. I typically size up in this fabric because I find that it does shrink a little when you wash it. I'm trying on a size medium and I love the relaxed fit.

Graphic Tee | I shared this tee on my most recent Currently Loving post and it's actually the reason I even ended up going to Old Navy over the weekend. I knew I wanted this tee! The color is more of an off white than the photo shows online. I ended up purchasing this tee in a medium because I like the looser fit and the longer length. It's actually a super flattering tee! I wore it yesterday to church and I'll be styling it here on the blog this week, too. The jeans in this picture are also from Old Navy and they fit true to size. I'm wearing a size four for reference. I think these jeans will be super cute with wedges or sandals for spring!

Striped Tee | These luxe tees at Old Navy are the best! I just can't pay crazy amounts of money for t-shirts when I can buy these for so much less. I personally always get a medium in these tees for knotting and to tuck in but I would say they do run true to size. I wash them on the gentle cycle and hang to dry to prevent shrinkage. I love love love these and would highly recommend them to anyone who appreciates a good t-shirt!

Hoodie | I was surprised how much I loved this hoodie! It comes down a little longer in the back and fits relaxed yet still flattering. I'm trying on a size small and I would say it runs true to size.

Currently Loving

style on a budget, currently loving, north carolina blogger, casual style, mom style

Happy Friday! I hope you've had a great week! Our week has been good but just so off schedule after getting almost eight inches of snow on Wednesday. In North Carolina, we rarely see that much snow so the girls have been out of school since Tuesday and we are getting a little bit of cabin fever and our internet was down all day on Thursday. The snow was beautiful but I'm anxious to get back to our regular schedule!

Today, I'm rounding up my weekly picks for what I'm currently loving.

1.Joggers | I am currently loving joggers because of the fitted yet comfortable style. This pair is on my wish list!

2. Waterproof Jacket | I have been wanting to invest in a good waterproof jacket that will stand the test of time. My old rain jacket majorly needs an upgrade and I know I will get so many use out of one like this. I am also a big fan of Patagonia!

3. Pink Jacket | I don't own anything like this utility jacket but I think it's super cute. It's a great transitional piece that you can wear now and later. I love buying items this time of year that will work for me in winter but can carry over to spring.

4. Earrings | Kendra Scott released their spring collection this week and I seriously love everything. So many great pieces! These gorgeous earrings are one of my very favorite items in the collection. I absolutely love the color and the style!

5. Necklace | I love the minimalist style of this necklace. It's so simple but it still makes a statement and adds the perfect finishing touch to any look.

6. Tan Purse | This bag is so cute and looks much more expensive than it is! I've said it before but you really can't go wrong with a bag from Sole Society. The quality is always amazing!

7. Graphic Tee | I don't wear many graphic tees but I thought this one was super cute! I also really love that it's neutral colors that can be layered with anything.

8. Sneakers | I have a similar pair of sneakers but I am really love the classic black and white style of this pair. So perfect to wear now with joggers or jeans and with a cute short sleeve black swing dress in the springtime.

9. Zip Up Hoodie | I love all of my Aerie sweatshirts and I love this new one that zips up. Such a great hoodie to throw on for the gym or to wear with leggings for an athleisure look.

Thanks so much for visiting! I hope you have a great weekend!
