fashion: vacation preparation

I'm usually pretty good about packing in advance and getting everything ready to head out of town. But not this year. I procrastinated and here I am, the day before we leave, scrambling to get everything ready. I just hope I don't forget anything. I am so excited about our family vacation to the OBX! Regular blogging will resume next Monday. Happy Fourth, y'all!

fashion: Sunday stripes + sock bun curls

My favorite romper was on repeat yesterday. It's such a comfortable piece that goes with everything. It is my go-to when I'm not sure what to wear because I can dress it up or down.

I am currently loving a sock bun. I wore my hair in a sock bun on Saturday (my hair was still damp when I put it up) and when I took it down Sunday morning, I had a pretty curly ponytail. I love an easy hairstyle! Sock bun for the win again.

diy: vintage mirror chalkboard

I've had this vintage mirror in my garage for well over a year, just collecting dust and dog hair. I decided I wanted to create something and I've always wanted a big chalkboard. My husband is typically the one who tackles these projects at our house but he was out of town and I was determined to do it myself.

First, I cleaned it and spray painted the entire thing- frame and mirror with a white primer.

Then I headed to Wal-Mart for supplies. I got this chalkboard spray paint and this fun citrus green color for the frame.

I covered the frame with painters tape and painted the mirror section with the chalkboard paint. I did two coats. I let it dry for several hours then covered the chalkboard area with newspaper and painters tape. I spray painted the frame with about three coats of the spray paint to make sure it was covered then I finished it off with a coat of clear protective gloss.

It isn't perfect but I love it! I need to go back and touch up a few places but I think it turned out great. The mirror was free and the other supplies were less than $7. A fun and inexpensive do-it-yourself project!

I plan to hang it in my kitchen as a menu board. I also plan to use it on the girls first days of school, birthdays, and other events as a message board.

fashion + family: wifey

On Saturday, Josh and I celebrated our sixth wedding anniversary. I'm so happy to be married to my best friend.

We took the girls to Bicentennial Park to the stage where we got married. The four of us stood in that spot and I captured this photo of all of our feet in that spot. Such a special moment. Our lives have changed so much since we stood there, just the two of us, six years ago. The change has been for the better and I love him so much more now than I ever could have imagined.

Julianna captured this photo of Josh and I standing on the stage. Our little Olivia came running through just in time. This picture is kind of perfect. I love it.

And our anniversary wouldn't be complete without wearing my new wifey tee. I ordered the decal from here and then ironed it onto a Wal-Mart tee. I love how it turned out!

fashion: t-shirt dress

I have really been trying to stay out of Wal-Mart, especially for buying groceries. I go in for grocery items and leave with all sorts of things, including this dress. I went grocery shopping at Aldi this week but I still ended up in Wal-Mart. Oh well. At least I'm trying. But how cute is this dress? It's a t-shirt dress and it's incredibly comfortable. At least my visit to Wal-Mart resulted in this cuteness.

beauty + fashion: bright

I was sent a sample of Jamberry nail wraps a few weeks ago and I finally got around to giving it a try last night. I was pretty skeptical at first because it seemed like it would be hard to apply but I was wrong. It was actually very easy to apply and I love it! The floral and polka dot design is too cute. I picked an Essie polish to go on my other nails {mod square}. I love how my nails turned out!

Today's outfit goes with my nails: it's bright! Like neon bright and I love it. I wear this top a lot because the colors just make me happy. Summertime clothes should be bright and fun.

GroopDealz is one of my favorite websites for bargain boutique items and stylish looks for less! They offer clothing, accessories, home decor, purses, kids items, and much more. Each day I am going to feature a few of my favorite items that are currently on sale on their website. Enjoy!

fashion: balanced

Today has been very balanced. I walked two miles and ate a frozen custard strawberry sundae... and it was amazing! My goal is to walk 40 miles in 30 days. I completed my last challenge, 30 miles in 30 days, in 27 days. I'm hoping to increase my goal a little each month to keep me moving. So far, so good! I have also balanced a far amount of patterns in this outfit. Rhinestone dots on my shirts, geometric squares on my shorts, leopard on my sandals, and stripes on my bag. I love a good pattern mix!

fashion: #tullesday

Today is #tullesday! I didn't make this special day up, one of my fashionable friends on Instagram created #tullesday to give us a fun reason to wear tulle skirts. Basically we are playing dress up and enjoying every second of it. I created a casual summer look with my tulle skirt and I love how it turned out. I felt like quite the princess and Julianna told me I looked like one too. She took these photos of me and I love how they turned out. She's becoming quite the little photographer.

Julianna + Olivia: pom pom motivation jar

When Julianna was potty training we used a jar and pom poms as a method of motivation. she earned pom poms for using the potty. When she filled her jar, she got a big prize. She went on a movie date with daddy and got to visit Chuck E. Cheese for the first time. After filling the jar up twice, she no longer needed the extra reinforcement and was fully potty trained. Olivia (with the help of Julianna) has been working on potty training for a few months now. I decided to pull out the jar and pom poms for her now. We also decided to do a jar for Julianna again to reinforce some behaviors that we are currently working on and to reward responsibility. When their jars are filled, they will be able to choose their special prize. A little intrinsic and extrinsic motivation goes a long way!

fashion: summer uniform

My summer uniform consists of my chambray sleeveless shirts from Wal-Mart (only $7) and printed shorts because I have quite the growing collection of them. I love a fun pair of shorts.

I walked 3 miles around the mall today (with different shoes) with Olivia while Julianna was at VBS. She did ok and hopefully tomorrow will be better for her. She isn't a fan of breakfast and wouldn't eat before she went today. Usually she's ok because she has a snack around 9:30 at home but the didn't have snack until much later and she just couldn't keep herself together. I'm the same way. I get "hangry" when I haven't eaten. I'm hoping to get her to eat tomorrow but if not, I'm packing a snack for her to eat when she gets hungry. She loves VBS so much and I want her to enjoy this week there.
